Finland has very distinctive seasons, each of them is very special but the colors we get in Autumn (Ruska) are simply awesome! The weather is still decent: fresh but nice, decent amount of daylight but above all the whole city changes its coat to a nice looking yellow, orange, and even even red.. Yellow leaves being the most common.
“As long as autumn lasts, I shall not have hands, canvas, and colors enough to paint the beautiful things I see”
Vincent Van Gogh
Over the last years I´ve enjoyed going to different places in the city, either by bike or just walking to combine exercise with photography.
Töölönlahti
Given its promixity to the city center, this is the place I walk or cycle to the most when I don´t want to go too far, and the autumn is no exception. In fact, I have photographed one small path there so many times I lost count 😉
Back to ground level, some of my favorite photos on Instagram!
360 camera photos… perfection!
The latest addition to my collection includes some 360 camera photos. Almost everything else you will see in this blog corresponds to previous years, but now (2023) is where I fell in love with this new way to create images
From the other side of the bay, we have great views to cute Villas and Cafes overlooking the bay. The photos I shared above are on that side, the small blue cafe on the right is where my famous little path begins its way down to the bay.
Next photos on Instagram are mostly from Töölö Bay
Kaisaniemen puisto
This park is located on the opposite side of Töölonlahti, very close to the central railway station.. esentially in the same central area.
This area is known for their maple trees that turn into spectacular colors at the right time
Just a 5 minute walk from this park we reach Eläintarhanlahti, a perfect place to capture the colors and beautiful classic architecture in the background.
Some drone selfies…
As years went by I decided to invest in a mini drone, and the possibilities just exploded! My favorite pictures are these when I just lay down on the floor and the view is fully vertical but I am still visible with my distinctive bright colors!
“Autumn shows us how beautiful it is to let things go”
Unknown
More photos on Instagram using the drone.. some of these are much higher to get more of the landscape. I like to play around with the perspectives
Kamppi
Very close to my place and Kammpi, there is a cycle / walking path that connecs the city center to Ruoholahti neighbourhood. In normal circumstances I walk here almost every day.
The path itself can get colorful but not all along, there is one small section in particular that stands out provided the combination of trees and plants, especially those “sticked” to the rocky part. At its peak this is very impressive every year! It feels almost like it´s hand-painted with such tree combination.
Or… just anywhere in Helsinki!
Oh wow, when carefully putting all my favorites together, I realized it was not an easy task to start separating by specific park or neighborhood 😉
However, I can easily say there are many places in the city where you can appreciate this. Helsinki is a very green city (the entire countrye for mat matter) .. and nature is available practically anywhere!
Photos below are in Seurasaari, Suomenlinna, Luukki recreational park, Nuuksio National Park, Vuosaari and Meilahti areas in Helsinki.
This visual post could take forever but I believe again this is a high quality representation to make this city justice when I say it gets REALLY BEAUTIFUL to live in this time of the year.
Bonus: Some panoramic views
